This is our first flock of meat birds of this year. They are going to be butchered tomorrow. All of this flock is spoken for and we’ve started taking orders for the second flock! These fellows are a little smaller than we’d like to see, but they will still be a good size.
Mademoiselle Elisabeth with a superb specimen of the first flock. 🙂
Here I am holding one of the chickens from the second batch. They are 5 weeks old and gaining well.
Because the weather is feeling like summer now, Dad helped Elisabeth and I redo the doors. He cut each door in half; now the lower portion opens inward and the upper portion opens in and up. Not only does it allow more airflow in, but it also is easier to get into the coops. It looks really fancy, don’t you think?!
Another change that we recently made was to remove the plywood that had been covering the back portion of the coop. Above is what it looked like a few weeks ago;
This is what it looks like now; we have a fan in a front corner of the coop that blows the air through to the back of the coop. The chickens stay much cooler with this set-up!
Thank you for visiting A Homespun Country Life!
